Tile, grout, filters and lights
Pool and Spa Repair
Tile and grout repair, filter cleaning and pool light replacement, including the deck shift that is a common occurrence here in Arizona.
Chapter 01
When the deck shifts, the tile line is where it shows
Shifting of the deck is a common occurrence here in Arizona. Ground moves with heat, water and time, and a pool deck moves with it, but the tile band at the waterline is rigid and does not forgive. The first sign is usually a hairline crack along the coping edge, or a tile that has lifted where the deck pulled away from the pool shell.
The photo above shows that exact spot: four views of blue waterline tile bands and a cracked tile edge where the deck shifted. If you have this issue, we can take care of it for you.
Cracks in grout are worth taking seriously for another reason. Once the joint opens, water gets behind the tile, and the next movement pops a tile free. A small repair done early costs far less than rebuilding a section of the band.

Tile and grout, filters and pool lights
Repair here covers tile and grout repair, filter cleaning and pool light replacement. In general, a tile and grout repair starts with removing what has failed: the loose tile, the crumbled grout, the dead calcium that would stop new material from bonding. Then the tile is set back or replaced and the joints are filled and cleaned.
A filter that has been neglected loses flow slowly. Oils, fine debris and mineral scale pack into it, the pump works harder for less water, and the pool starts to look cloudy even when the chemistry is right. Cleaning the filter brings that flow back.
A pool light that has failed is easy to spot, and it is a safety and comfort problem as much as a cosmetic one. Replacing the light fixture is on the list, so a night swim in Anthem or Scottsdale does not depend on a bulb you cannot reach.
Chapter 03
What to watch for, and when to call again
Look along the tile line after the hottest weeks of summer and again after the first cool spell. Hairline cracks that widen, grout that crumbles under a fingernail, a tile that sounds hollow when tapped, and a light that flickers or has water inside the lens are the ones that do not fix themselves.
The best moment to find loose tile is when the water is already down. Lowering the water 6 to 8 inches for calcium removal exposes the whole waterline band, so cracks and weak grout that were hidden under the surface are suddenly easy to see. Pools in Desert Hills, New River and Peoria often get both jobs done in one visit that way.

Repairs sit right next to the band that comes off
Calcium removal and repair often share a visit, because the same lowered waterline that shows the scale also shows the failed joint. If your pool needs the white band taken off first, start with calcium removal, or ask about a drain and acid wash and pool and spa cleaning for the interior.
