Pool and Spa Cleaning
Chlorine washing, power washing and pool draining for pools and spas that need more than a skim, with the deck rinsed and hosed off when the work is done.
Chapter 01
Acid, chlorine and power washing are three different jobs
Pool and spa cleaning here covers four things: acid washing, chlorine washing, power washing and pool draining. They sound interchangeable and they are not. As a rule, a chlorine wash goes after algae and organic staining, an acid wash goes after mineral staining and the dull film hard water leaves on plaster, and power washing cleans the hard surfaces around the water.
Picking the right one for the surface is most of the skill. A wash that suits plaster can be the wrong move on natural stone or a travertine coping, and the reverse is true too. That is why a quick look at the pool and a few photos come before any wash is chosen.
Pools and spas in Peoria, Surprise, Anthem and Scottsdale have the same starting point: very hard water that evaporates fast in summer. What changes is how long it has been since anyone gave the surfaces more than a brush.

Why a spa shows scale before the pool does
A spa is a small volume of warm water with a lot of surface area for its size. In general, warm water holds minerals less comfortably than cool water, and a small spa loses and refills its water faster than a pool, so scale tends to show on the spa tile and spillway first.
A raised spa spilling into a pool, like the stone-faced one in the photo above, is the classic place to see it. The spill edge stays wet and dries in a thin line, again and again, and each cycle leaves a little more behind. The band reads white on dark tile and grey on stone.
For spas in Cave Creek, Carefree and Paradise Valley, the sensible rhythm is to look at the waterline and spill edge at the same time as the pool, so a small build-up gets cleaned before it becomes a big one.
Chapter 03
A rinsed deck and a pool you can get back into
When the washing is done, the surrounding deck is rinsed and hosed off, so the spent water and loosened residue do not get left on the stone or concrete to dry in the sun. It is a small step, and it is the difference between a pool that is clean and a patio that looks like a work site.
Aftercare is mostly water chemistry. Keep the pH balanced and the calcium hardness between 200 and 400 ppm, and the surfaces stay cleaner for longer. If the hardness has crept too high, draining the pool halfway is the standard correction.

Tile and plaster are separate jobs
The white line at the waterline gets its own treatment
Washing the pool does not take the calcium band off the tile. That is blasted away with media chosen for the surface, with the water lowered 6 to 8 inches, and the pool stays full. If your tile carries that band as well as a tired interior, both can be quoted in the same phone call.
